3 Ways to Prepare for the Work Week

Everyone has to work.  Sad but true and yours truly does as well.  I have found three ways to prepare for the work week.  It makes my life much easier and less chaotic during the week and it can help you, too.

I don’t like it when I need to do things during the week.  If I can do it on the weekend, then it will be done on the weekend.  When I get home from work, I don’t have a lot of down time.  If I have to do something after work during the week, it really throws me off.

So, I like to be prepared for the work week.  I am a planner.  So, here are a few things that help me prepare for the week.

Lunch Preparation

I like to think about what I want for lunch ahead of time.  Usually, I will budget my lunch preparation on my pay schedule.  That way I will allot how much money I will spend for each week.

My lunches can be as simple as a sandwich, applesauce and yogurt or a casserole that I eat all week.  It just depends on what I want to do.  Either way, I like to be prepared.

If it’s a sandwich, applesauce and yogurt, then I buy everything during the weekend.  Then I just make the sandwich in the morning before work.  It’s pretty quick and simple process.

If it’s a casserole, then there is more involved.  I buy the ingredients on Saturday, then cook the casserole on Sunday.  That way I can eat it for the week.  If a casserole can be put in the freezer, then I do it.  If it can’t be put in the freezer, then I make sure it can last for the whole week.  I don’t like wasting food!

Grocery Shopping

We’ve kinda touched on this already.  I like to do my grocery shopping on the weekend, mostly on Saturday.  Grocery shopping doesn’t take me long to do.  In fact, I like to do my grocery shopping early in the morning before the crowds take over.

To make it even easier, I like to create my grocery list Friday evening while I am winding down from the week.  It makes it easier to get up Saturday morning and go to the store.  I’m not wasting my precious Saturday on a grocery list.  It’s already done.

Once I bring all the groceries home, I like to divide everything right then and there.  I like to get it out of the way, so I can get on with the rest of my day.  So, I will take my meats, put them in freezer bags and throw them in the freezer for the week.  This is also a perfect time to do your meal prepping for the week.

If I am cooking a dish for the week, then I get all the ingredients together.  I like to put all the perishables together in the fridge.  The rest of the non-perishables will go together in the cabinet for easy access Sunday, when I cook.


I hate doing laundry during the week.  Between working all day, then coming home to work on my blog, being a mom and a wife, I don’t have much “me” time.  Who wants to spend the last few hours washing clothes?  I don’t!  So, I like to do all of my laundry on the weekend, preferrably on Sunday.

I’d rather do it on Sunday than Saturday.  Saturday is my free day to do whatever I want.  When I do laundry on Sunday, I am planning what I wear for the week.  I don’t have to think about it first thing in morning during the week.  It’s already planned.

Think about it like this, you’re half dead in the morning and it’s chaos in the house.  You don’t have time to think about what you are wearing to work.  Planning ahead on the weekend will relieve that stress.  Remember, you want to make your life easier not harder!
