I have done my share of bargain shopping and I have figured out the best times of the year to shop. If you are like me, then you want to save money and get more bang for your buck. I am here to help you with that.
There are 5 main times of the year to go shopping:
- Black Friday
- Cyber Monday
- Day After Christmas thru New Years
- Memorial Day Weekend
- Semi-Annual Sales
Black Friday is where you will save the most money. The question you have to ask yourself is this: is it really worth staying in line for the savings? I think it depends on what it is you want to buy. If you have done your research and found that this is the best deal you can get, then by all means go for it.
Black Friday has become tradition for many people. In fact, companies depend on this to ensure their revenue for the year. So, they try to get as much product out there to sale. Let me give you some advice, make sure the big ticket items that are on sale is in stock.
Sometimes the stores will offer a really great deal on, let’s say a flat screen TV. They advertise an awesome hard to come by price. You get to the store, wait in line and go for that TV. Guess what? They only had one or two in stock the whole time. It is a ploy to get you in there and buy other products. They never had any intentions on stocking that TV for the awesome price. Ask the store for a raincheck. They just might surprise you and give it to you but don’t be surprised if they don’t.
With that being said, do your research before going out and waiting in a long ass line to be disappointed. My suggestion is this, wait until later that morning to go shopping. That’s what I do and I still get good deals.
Cyber Monday is another great time to save money. It seems that Amazon has it on lockdown. The best thing to do is research all your options before making your purchases.
Google the items you want. See each store’s prices. Then go to each site and see what kind of deals they are promoting for Cyber Monday. Better yet, get on their email list. I know Best Buy will give you a heads up on their Cyber Monday deals.
Another great thing about Cyber Monday, you can shop in the comfort of your own pajamas in your own home. You don’t have to get dressed and wait in some long ass line. There’s no pushing or shoving going on. No fighting for the items you want. In most cases, you already know what’s in stock and available to purchase. You don’t have that luxury with Black Friday.
Day After Christmas thru New Years
The day after Christmas thru New Years is another great time to get good deals. I go shopping a lot during this time. I can get so many clothes for a fraction of the original price.
This time of year is where stores are trying to get rid of their fall/winter wears. My favorite place to go to is Old Navy. I can find all kinds of treasures there. Don’t worry, there are other stores with great treasures. You just gotta get out there and look.
Another thing to consider is that people return what they don’t want. You know that saying, “another man’s trash, is another man’s treasure.” It’s true! Just think of all the tech stuff that is returned. It’s considered refurbished just because the box was opened. It doesn’t mean something is wrong with the computer or TV.
Memorial Day Weekend
This another great weekend to save money. I have found that I can save money both at the grocery store AND retail stores. It’s awesome! Many retailers advertise great sales because summer is coming.
These retailers want to get everyone amped up by advertising the newest summer clothes. They know people are getting ready for their summer vacations. So, what do people do when they are going on vacation? They buy new clothes for their trips.
Companies know this and they are willing to help you along. Another reason it’s a great weekend for shopping is the spring clearance sales. It’s out with the old and in with the new.
As you see, I mentioned grocery shopping. Yes, you can save some dollars there as well. Grocery stores know you are getting ready to do some barbecuing and what better way to get rid of closley expiring perishables?
That’s right! You are getting a great deal on those hot dogs and chicken but that expiration date is just around the corner. Definitely check your meats before buying them. You can buy them but either cook them immediately and serve, cook them then freeze or directly freeze them after purchase. They will still be good to eat later.
I love semi-annual sales. Not all stores do this. The only ones that I know that have semi-annual sales are:
- Bath and Body Works
- Victoria Secret
- Forever 21
- Saks Fifth Avenue
I love collecting my favorite scents at Bath and Body Works. This is when I collect on my hand soaps for my kitchen and bathroom. I can get enough to last me until the next semi-annual sale!
I also wait until Victoria Secret has their semi-annual sale to get my bras and panties. I get enough supplies to last me until the next semi-annual sale. Their bras and panties are already expensive enough, so I try to splurge as much as I can.
Something you probably didn’t know about Coach. They never have sales! So, when they have their semi-annual sale, it’s best to get in on those deals! The only other way to buy a Coach purse on sale is at other retailers, especially Macy’s!
